Peini Cacao Plantation LTD (PCPL)
Peini Cacao Plantation Ltd. (PCPL) is the farming arm of the Belize Cacao Consortium.
Established in 2012 and acquired by BCC in 2016, Peini and its team have deep rooted connections in the native Indian tribes of southern Belize.
It is in this area of Toledo and Stann Creek where PCPL has acquired 3 farms totaling 107 acres.
The team at PCPL started work early in 2017 to clear and clean the new farms and install drainage systems where needed so that we were ready to plant new baby seedlings come rainy season.
PCPL has developed a relationship with an association of local Maya cacao farmers, the Na’Lu’Um Cacao Institute, and worked together to build a nursery of 120,000 saplings.
40,000 of these saplings were made available to local subsistence farmers who ordinarily could not afford to buy new saplings and the rest were planted in PCPL farms.
An agreement was made to facilitate the growth of the Na’Lu’Um Institutes core group of farmers which has now increased from 6 to 150 qualified producing farmers with the management and financial assistance of PCPL.
